What Conure Cages Should You Get?

conure cages are one of the most important things to look at, if you’re planning to get one of these as a pet! Conures are small to medium sized long-tailed New World parrots. Sun conures are extremely popular members of the parrot family as they have remarkably colorful plumage, a playful personality and they are very intelligent birds — it takes a surprisingly short amount of time to teach them to speak!

There are several things that you should take into consideration when you are looking into which cage is most suitable for a conure.

Bar spacing. The bar spacing needs to be no larger than 3/4 of an inch.

Ideally, the spacing should be between 1/2 and inch and 3/4 of an inch, so that the conure will not accidentally get its head stuck between the gaps.

Cage width. Finding a cage that is at least double the wingspan of the conure is ideal. A cage that is at least 20 inches wide is ideal if you’re housing a single conure. Something closer to 30″ in width is preferable if you’re planning to house a pair.

Cage height. The minimum height for a conure cage should be between 22 – 24 inches, although much taller is recommended.

What additional features should you look out for (or include) in conure cages?

Make sure that you place several perches and toys inside the cage to keep the conure occupied. Hanging chew toys are an excellent way to entertain your pet conure when you are not around. Some cages come with toys installed in the roof, or alternatively you can purchase them separately.

Conures also like to bathe. If you don’t give them an additional source of water, other than their water bowl, they will quite happily bathe in the place they’re meant to drink from!  Include a bathing dish, if possible, in your conure cages to keep them happy and healthy!
